A Seven-week Hands-on Intro to Makerspace Tools and Methods
Introductory Course to Makerspace
Practice 3D printing, laser cutting, and digital fabricating with a team of pros! This hands-on, one-credit-hour course only meets once a week, but you’ll probably wish it was every day. That’s what happens when a college course becomes a passion project.
You’ll gain the know-how and equipment certifications to chart your desired innovative path – plus have fun while doing so! Complete the course confidently using 3D printers, laser cutters and benchtop CNC machines.
Course Learning Outcomes
Coming out of the class, you’ll be ready to take visionary ideas from concept to creation.
- Understanding the principals that underlie modern digital fabrication technologies.
- Understand the terminology and application of basic Computer Aided Design including the role of CAD in efficiently developing and iterating prototypes.
- Understand the terminology and application of entry level digital fabrication technologies such as laser cutting, 3d printing, and CNC machining including safe use and information literacy.
- Develop effective communication and critical thinking through group work and discussion to compare and select different prototyping methods.
- Recognize cross-cultural differences in communication and behavior in today's global workplace through discussion and group work.
Pre-requisites
This course is open to all UC students. No course prerequisites.
It doesn’t matter who you are. First-year or senior, humanities or STEM, anyone is welcome. All it takes is a little creativity and a desire to add some excitement to your class schedule. Enroll in PD1180C and the power of UC’s Makerspace will soon be yours to unlock.
