UC professor leads film students to the future

As a kid, at the age of 10, Marty Schiff’s dad gave him a Kodak Brownie movie camera, and that led to a lifetime of creating stories on film. He spent his summers with that camera, making eight-millimeter movies, with a camera that taught him how to thread a projector, change the film in a closet, and tell stories with the medium he loved. “I always wanted to go to Hollywood,” Schiff says. So later he did, with $200 in his pocket, and began a career that has spanned acting, directing, producing—pretty much everything with the exception of costumes (“I’m not really good with a sewing machine,” he says).

Discovery in Action Showcase highlights breadth of Arts and Sciences

The Discovery in Action Showcase brought faculty, staff and students together March 31 in TUC Great Hall to highlight the breadth of research, teaching and experiential learning across the University of Cincinnati’s College of Arts and Sciences. Through interactive booths, hands‑on demonstrations and a student poster forum, the event showcased interdisciplinary work ranging from scientific research to cultural and public health studies while fostering connection and collaboration across the college.

High Court offers protections for therapy speech

Jennifer Bard, a professor in the Donald P. Klekamp College of Law and the UC Department of Internal Medicine, spoke with journalists about the US Supreme Court ruling granting first amendment protections for speech offered during therapy sessions.

What is the 'cicada' COVID variant?

April 6, 2026

A formerly rare strain of COVID, BA.3.2, now is showing up in Ohio and 24 other states. Experts say so far it hasn't caused illness any more severe than other strains, but it might be somewhat more resistant to vaccines, as 91.7 WVXU News recently reported. Scientists have nicknamed the variant "cicada" due to its former low profile and current resurgence.

UC launches new Center for Public Health

The University of Cincinnati College of Medicine recently announced Suzanne Judd, PhD, as the inaugural director of its new Center for Public Health. The hire follows a national search launched in August 2025, as the Cincinnati Business Courier reported.
